Its main function was to defend Arrifana Bay and the local fishing activity, particularly tuna fishing. Over the centuries, it suffered various damages, eventually falling into ruin and abandonment. Today, after some rehabilitation, it is a place of historical interest and a magnificent viewpoint over Arrifana Beach and the Vicentina Coast.
